Pennies for Peace

Peace and Hope Begin With Education: One Child At A Time

PakUSonline - Pennies for Peace logo.bmp Pennies for Peace Program (P4P) educates American children about the world beyond their experience and how they can make a positive impact on a global scale, one penny at a time. P4P is a program of Central Asia Institute, (CAI) which was founded in 1996, and has built, to date, nearly 100 schools in Afghanistan and Pakistan, which serve more than 28,000 students – over 14,000 of whom are girls. It teaches our children the rewards of sharing and working together to bring hope and education opportunities to the children in Pakistan and Afghanistan. A penny in the United States is virtually worthless, but overseas a penny buys a pencil and opens the door to literacy.

The Pennies for Peace Program will kick off with a small presentation from a parent/teacher who will talk about the program to the children.  Then we will set out jars to collect only pennies during the month of April. We will place jars for the collection of pennies in all classrooms at X Academy.  At the end of the month, the jars will be collected and converted into a check that will be sent to the CAI.

During the month of April, teachers can look up resources on www.penniesforpeace.org to talk to the students about geography, cultures, and civics.  Resources include a suggested curriculum, facts list, photographs, reference list and a video talking about the Pennies for Peace Program.
